The journey continues on revealing an ornament from my collection (see related post).

Day 2: 1999 Soup Can Santa

Materials:

  • Soup can lid
  • Delta Ceramcoat Acrylic paints: pink angel, burgundy rose, red, black, white
  • Delta Decorative Snow
  • Delta Sparkle Glaze
  • Silver jingle bell
  • Red bead, 6mm, one
  • Raffia strands
  • Wire, 20 gauge, 8 inches
  • Nail, hammer, glue, old scissors, pencil, paintbrushes

Instructions: Cut two small slices from edge of lid to form a square corner for top of hat. Use hammer and nail to punch one hold in each side at bottom of hat. Paint face area with pink angel (or flesh colored) paint. Paint mouth and eyes with black, highlight eyes with white. Dry brush cheeks with burgundy rose. Paint hat on front and back with red. Glue bead nose on face. Wrap wire around pencil. Twist wire ends in holes.

I used the pencil eraser and the ends of the paintbrushes to dab on the decorative snow to the front and back of the Santa face. It worked well to just play with it until it looked fluffy. Pipe snow for the hair, beard, mustache, eyebrows, hatband and tip of hat. Apply Sparkle Glaze to snow. Tie raffia into a bow, glue to one side. Tie bell to raffia strand.
