Moist, Decadent Brownies

Colorado was hit with snow this weekend, which makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. After all, I’ve got that rich North Dakota blood in me! And with the hubby still a bit under the weather, we’ve spent the last couple of days hulled up inside watching movies, drinking tea and snuggling with our puppy.

I don’t know about anyone else, but with the snow falling there’s just something that drives me to heat up the oven, pull out the mixer and fill our home with wonderful smells.

I have a go-to recipes for homemade brownies that I’ve made for years. Once you whip up a batch you’ll know why.

Dark Chocolate Brownies

  • 3/4 cup shortening (melted)
  • 8 teaspoons dark cocoa
  • 1 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts

Beat the eggs and sugar, add chocolate and shortening. Blend in flour, salt, baking powder and vanilla. Add nuts. Spray a 9×9 baking pan with cooking spray and add the batter. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes.

Warning: You may want more than one!
