We’ve owned our home for more than nine years now, and with every year we find updates that make it more ours. And of course some of those updates were just needed – like the new roof and exterior paint!
The landscape has been a labor of love for years and I don’t think we’ll ever truly be done with our outdoor space as I’m always finding new plants and flowers to brighten the great outdoors. The trees are finally taking off and we’ve redone our garden boxes that now fill our home with veggies all summer long.
As for the inside, we just recently started addressing small updates. Well I say small, but really it all started with the replacement of our carpet. Needless to say the builder-grade off white carpet had seen its better days. So in the week following the Colorado 2013 Flood, we finally signed on the dotted line and ordered brand new carpet. It has so worth the wait and has made our home so much warmer. We’ve added new paint and even updated all the hardware to brushed nickel getting rid of the dreaded brass.
While many of the fixtures in our home had been updated by the previous homeowners to clean looks, what we lacked was any type of ceiling lights in our guest bedroom and office. We depending solely on the use of lamps in those rooms which served us well for years, until recently. When the hubby back to school we ended up with two desks in the 10×10 office. With graduation on the horizon, it was time to get rid of the large, bulky desk. We sold it quickly and rearranged the office.
One problem unveiled. The lamp could no longer be hooked into the outlet controlled by the switch.
It was time to call an electrician.
So last weekend we added fan and light kits to the guest bedroom and office, and also updated the outdated white fans in our master bedroom and living room. What a difference! I can’t believe we waited so long.
My next DIY project? I’m embarking on covering up the builder-grade oak cabinets in the bathrooms and kitchen. Wish me luck. Stay tuned for my journey.
